Are you a Milk Maker?
Hi! Welcome to the section of my website for Milk Makers. If you are breastfeeding or lactating, this is the section for you! I am Karyn-grace Clarke, IBCLC, a Registered Lactation Consultant and owner of Happy Tribe Consulting. I’m glad you stopped by!
Awesome! But, what is a Lactation Consultant?
Good question! As an LC (as I am commonly called) I am a health care professional who is an expert in the art of breastfeeding and in the science of lactation. To become such an expert, I undertook a set amount of education geared towards breastfeeding and amassed hundreds of hours working with mothers and babies. Once I met the requirements, I had to take and pass a rigorous exam.
All LC’s are required to keep up-to-date on current breastfeeding advancements and issues and are required to recertify every five years. As an LC who operates a Private Practice and sees clients in the comfort of their own home, I have expertise in helping mothers breastfeed no matter how old their baby - from a few days to a few years old.
Great. But what does a Lactation Consultant actually do?
Well, for starters, my role as an LC is to empower you to achieve your breastfeeding goals. I do this by assisting families to prevent and overcome difficulties, I collaborate with a family’s other health care providers when necessary, and I have the knowledge, skill and expertise to work with mothers and their infants in both routine and special circumstances.
For Milk Makers, I offer in-home and remote consultations for breastfeeding and lactation crisis and chronic difficulties. As well, I offer counseling and goal-setting assistance to help couples with lifestyle and philosophy adjustments brought on by becoming breastfeeding parents.
Sweet. How do I know if *I* need a Lactation Consultant?
Basically, anytime you have questions or concerns about breastfeeding, you can seek the services of a Registered Lactation Consultant and know that you will be getting the highest standard in lactation health care. But, to be more specific, if you or your baby are experiencing any of the following and want help to resolve it, you are in the market for an LC! We can get started on a solution to your situation as soon as you get in touch with me!
Thank you for explaining that! How do I make an appointment with you?
Sounds good! Can you give me a heads up about the cost?
Of course! It’s quite reasonable, actually. Basically, I charge $40 per hour for consultations, whether that is local in-home visits or via phone, Skype or email. I bill only for face-to-face time. I do not bill for research, advocacy, or collaborating with other health care professionals on your behalf.
Phone / Skype / Email Consultations
For phone, Skype, or email consultations, a non-refundable deposit of $40 is required before the consultation will begin. Consultations will end after one hour, with an option to book further consultations upon receipt of another deposit. The deposit can be made via email money transfer or Paypal.
Prospective clients are requested to contact me first via email or phone to arrange a consultation time, before paying their deposit. This will ensure that I have both the time and availability to help. As part of your initial contact, I will assess your situation and estimate how many hours of my time will be needed in order to assist you in your breastfeeding & parenting challenges. Most of these types of consults include both phone/online contact as well as follow up via email, which will be scheduled with you upon initial contact.
For help with these types of situations, I advise you to book an appointment with a Registered Lactation Consultant in your own local area, by searching the directory at www.ilca.org.
You know, I think this is exactly the kind of help I am looking for! How do we get started?
